Beginner Session Pricing Calculator

A simple way to set a minimum price so you’re not guessing. Enter your goal, how many sessions you can realistically shoot, and your estimated cost per session.

1) Quick Inputs

If you’re unsure, start with the defaults and adjust later.

What you want to bring in from sessions per month.
Be honest about your time + editing bandwidth.
Gas, props, prints, gallery fees, etc. (rough estimate is fine).
Covers “oops costs” + underestimating time. (Recommended: 10–20%).
Beginner tip: If you’re still building your portfolio, you can choose to price lower — but use this tool to understand the math so you don’t get stuck there.

This tool is educational and based on your inputs. You can always refine later with the Studio Tools calculators.

2) How to Fill This Out (Fast)

Use these starter numbers if you don’t know what to put:

  • Monthly goal: $1,000 (side income) • $3,000 (serious beginner) • $6,000+ (growing studio)
  • Sessions/month: 4 (busy) • 8 (steady) • 12+ (high volume)
  • Cost/session: $20–$60 for most outdoor sessions (gas + tools + gallery fees)
  • Buffer: 15% is a safe default
